re: endorsements

HI Yuri,
First I want to say I love your work. Thee fact that you have the ability to turn stock photography into a serious business is amazing.
As for myself I'm a humble full time wedding photographer located in Rhode Island (between NY and Boston)
I enjoyed your "youtube" clip on "custom brackets" and actually bit the bullet and went for the
steady pod "basic" .. which I just received today. .. (July 16th) ..it's really nice piece of equipment.

On a more disappointing note I received the Manfrotto 685B monopod only to find it does not collapse
either from the top section or the middle. As you say in your video clip "it's a piece of junk" ..
I certainly can attest to that as this is the second one I received within ten days from B&H and have
decided to use another makers monopod.

I would also like to suggest that if you are going endorse a manufacturers product with your esteem name on it ..then the product should work. If you read the B&H threads you will find nothing but unhappy customers. I have written previously to Manfrotto about the first unit I received .. but they DID NOT have the courtesy to even reply.
Anyway I don't wish to waste your time about quality or representations only to inform you of something I think you already are aware of ..
Best Regards

Hi Gary,

I hope you are having a super week thus far. Thanks so much for the compliment, I'm sure it will bring a smile to Yuri's face. I am sorry to hear of your bad experiences, however pleased to hear you are happy with the steady pod.

I do understand what you are saying and it is sad to hear about such things happening. Whilst we endorse our product which we designed we don't directly endorse the rest as we have no direct control over the outcomes.

Warm Regards,

Michelle

The monopod is delivered by Manfrotto and is still a piece of junk. It breaks down, you have to oil it regularly to make sure it operates smoothly, and the screws constantly fall out. The bottom leg piece falls out, too.
I have to say that it is in all ways imaginable an incomplete product. But it's the only of its kind able to do the fast up- and down movements needed when shooting height, so, unfortunately, we have to live with it for now.
The piece I built is the top part, and, to my experience, this part works excellently and never breaks down. It is literally impossible to wear it down. Maybe if you put sand and water in it, which I've done a couple of times. However, I then cleaned and oiled it, and it still works, but I still won't recommend it.
So my final conclusion is: Endure the horrific building quality of the monopod and enjoy the minute details and finesse of the steady pod. :)
I can tell you that I privately met with the CEO of Manfrotto and suggested the changes I spoke about in the old YouTube video, but he rejected them and said he disagreed with me. I'm still not sure how you can disagree with the fact that the thing falls apart, but that's what he said...
If you're having problems with the top part of the device, I'd love to hear about it, because I've never had any trouble myself. If there are any imperfections to this part, I'd like to correct them.
