What's meant by 'impression' regarding specific media types?

I'm a little confused about the use of the word 'impression' in the (standard) licese agreement? It's perfectly clear what's meant in regard to use of the pictures in website designs, but I don't know how it works in connection with other media types.

Say, I want to use one of your pictures for the cover design of an ebook I publish via amazon's kdp program. Do the impressions refer to how many actually buy the book or is each appearance of a thumbnail anywhere on amazon's site (and connected reviewing sites) already an impression in the sense of the license agreement?

Hey Alexander Vormbrock

In microstock terminology, impressions are refereed to as viewing or appearances the images (media) will received once it is used. In the example you gave me the answer would be, that the number of appearances the image would receive on the retail online store(amazon.com) well it is visible on the site and also when purchased.

With regards to licensing, the difference between the Standard and the Extended License is as follows;

Standard License:The most normal license, which is used for normal, non-extensive, limited use. http://peopleimages.com/support/licenseAgreement/standard

Extended License: A license giving the client all rights to the images except the rights to resell the image itself. This means that no one else will be able to buy this image. But the image can be used on a product to sell the product (i.e Ebook).
